Internet is up!

So we finally got back in touch with the world. Comcast graced us with there presence today and got us all back up and running.

This weekend we busted out the move an are now in our house. Its been a rough couple of days but it sure does feel good to be home. Check out this awesome sunset last night!

Let the move begin....

Tonight was the first night of the move and so far so good. We wanted to get a head start cause the rain is suppose to be awful this weekend. Mom and Craig were able to come down and help out after Amandas parents got sick. We all got a full load over tonight then was able to fill up the truck for the dump tomorrow. It's going to be nice to get rid of all that carpet that smells like cat pee, black mold ridden drywall, popcorn ceiling crap, trailer park paneling, and good old carpet pads and tak boards. We now have a whole new area of the garage to move furniture to! Now I just hope the floors are dry enough to walk on tomorrow.

First look at the stain!

Dropped by the house tonight to unload some more boxes and stole a peak at the floors. They are starting to look really good, can't wait to see the final produce. Only a couple more days before the move!

Stains?

It was so hard to pick a stain. Still hoping we picked the right one, basically a mix of all these!

House color?

Trying to figure out what color to paint the outside. Thinking a dark grey....?

Refinishing the floors

I thought it was going to be easy finding someone to do our floors but again to my surprise, things aren't as easy as they sound. We had estimates all over the place, and all sorts of people. It's a bit nerve racking to make sure your picking the right person. Finding a person that you trust and will do a good job is really hard. Overall, I think we found a good guy and looking forward to seeing what our new floors are going to look like! We stopped by to do a little work downstairs and move in a few more boxes. So far, all the patches are done and the floors are looking really good once sanded down.

Pulling up carpets!

I'm working a bit backwards here but I just got this blog up so it's time to play catchup. Like I said in the last post, we had to pull up all carpets in the house because we knew there were original red oak floors lying beneath. What we didn't know was how good of shape they were in. The previous owner had a cat and the house smelled like urine which is a bad sign for wood floors.


To our surprise the floors actually looked really good as they were. It looks like it was probably the original finish from when the house was made back in 1964! There were a few scratches and a couple places that needed some patching but nothing too major.



Next, the fun process of finding someone to refinish our floors!

First updates.....

This is our first post, and a lot has happened so far. Last week we FINALLY got to take over our house. Since then we have been in every night taking care of the little things we want before moving. Well, the little stuff was a little more work that we had thought. Removing popcorn ceilings, resurfacing, tearing out all carpet, removing mold, etc. It's been an interesting beginning especially cause we are learning on the fly. More to catch up on soon.....
